What the term really means
A numerical representation of meaning that enables similarity comparison across text, images or other data.
How it works in practice
An embedding can find a “navy rain jacket” even when a product uses different wording because retrieval compares meaning rather than exact terms.
The decision to make before implementation
Choose the model, chunking method and similarity metric for the language and data type, and rebuild the index after changing the model.
How to verify that it works
Evaluate top-result relevance, coverage of important cases, retrieval latency and false similarity between superficially related concepts. Compare results with an agreed baseline and review routine cases, difficult exceptions and human hand-offs separately. A practical Embedding test should have an owner, a review date and a recorded example of an outcome the team will not accept.
The PAR HOUSE Agency approach
We approach Embedding from the workflow rather than a tool demonstration. Choose the model, chunking method and similarity metric for the language and data type, and rebuild the index after changing the model. We then build a small measurable scope, record assumptions and expand only after quality review.
