Model Routing

A mechanism that selects a model for a task based on quality, cost, speed, privacy or availability.

What the term really means

A mechanism that selects a model for a task based on quality, cost, speed, privacy or availability.

How it works in practice

A router may send translation to a fast model, contract analysis to a higher-quality model and protected data to a private environment.

The decision to make before implementation

Selection must consider content and risk, not price alone; fallback must not silently reduce safety.

How to verify that it works

Measure quality and cost per route, misclassification frequency, routing latency and the effects of provider failure. Compare results with an agreed baseline and review routine cases, difficult exceptions and human hand-offs separately. A practical Model Routing test should have an owner, a review date and a recorded example of an outcome the team will not accept.

The PAR HOUSE Agency approach

We approach Model Routing from the workflow rather than a tool demonstration. Selection must consider content and risk, not price alone; fallback must not silently reduce safety. We then build a small measurable scope, record assumptions and expand only after quality review.
