Preorders with stock and delivery control
A preorder must distinguish expected products from items ready now. Automation organises statuses but must not present planned delivery as confirmed stock.
Explain terms before purchase
Show preorder status, expected timing and payment and change-handling terms. Final wording must match the actual offer and applicable requirements.
Separate product states
Keep preorder status, planned receipt and ready-to-ship inventory distinct. A date passing does not confirm receipt of goods.
Handle mixed carts
Decide whether available and preorder items ship together or separately. Delivery price and messaging must match. Customers should not discover the waiting period only after purchase.
Respond to date changes
Update affected products and orders and identify the communication owner. Test delay, cancellation and partial receipt. A schedule alone must not trigger a dispatch confirmation.
Verify fulfilment transition
After confirmed receipt, check reservation, fulfilment queue and labels. Include insufficient stock for some orders. Event records explain each status change.
